Mom & Dad present: Vivian Nora Hall

Our precious baby, our first, was conceived in the waning moments of 2012. Come March we had full confirmation that something special was happening in our lives – something that would change us forever. Then in late April the scan tech leaned over and said “you’re having a girl!” Thankfully, God choose to make this a straightforward pregnancy. Around 22:00 on Sat, 22 Sept, four days past her due date, the contractions began in earnest. Sunday wasn’t pleasant as the contractions turned more and more painful and went on for longer and longer. We went to Epsom Hospital, Surrey, UK, around 14:00 on the 23rd. The initial check (midwife: Kats) showed Ningning was 6cm dilated. A painful 8 hour labor followed. While Ningning was breathing the Entonox (referred to as ‘gas and air’ – made up of half oxygen and half nitrous oxide) I chatted with our midwife, Michaela, who was now in the room full-time. Turns out she was a claims handler for 13 years at the same insurance company where I am now working! She left insurance to become a midwife 8+ years ago. Small world. Ningning kept on the ‘gas and air’ not wanting anything stronger. (My wife is simply brilliant!) At 6cm still, but hours later, they broke her water. Proceed further another few hours and she was fully dilated. The most amazing 3 minutes of our life happened a few very painful pushes later (ok, it wasn’t that simple)…

Vivian Nora Hall (Lively; girl of honor) was born on 24 Sept 2012, 01:02 at 2.870 kg., 48cm long. Mom and Vivi (and dad) are doing well. Below are the photos captured in labor, in the delivery suite, in our hospital room and then from the first week at home. Flickr links are below and use the i button (top left of the images) to see captions.

Vivian is half Chinese which dutifully means she gets a Chinese name! Her mother and parents have decided on 楊天諾 (Yang Tian-Nuo) which reads as “Tiano” and means God’s promise.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers through this 9 month+4 days process. Now the real journey begins!

Psalms 139:
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
